What users say

What users love

  • Native Shopify integration plus pre-built e-commerce flows (abandoned cart, browse-abandonment, post-purchase) ship measurable revenue in days — agencies report $40K+ extra monthly revenue from abandoned cart sequences (per Reddit r/ecommerce)
  • Email plus SMS plus RCS plus mobile push plus WhatsApp in one platform — no separate vendor contracts for the long-tail channels
  • Permanent free tier (250 profiles, 500 emails/month) supports early DTC brands through MVP and first paying customers
  • Strong segmentation and predictive analytics — Sunset Flow plus suppression strategy let stores manage 30K+ contact lists without runaway billing

Common complaints

  • Active-profile pricing scales sharply with list growth — stores routinely report bills doubling in 12 months; users at 2K contacts pay ~$60/month, 26K-profile stores pay $2,000+/month for SMS alone (per G2 + Reddit r/ecommerce)
  • SMS pricing is brutal at scale — 40K SMS/month with 200K credit burn translates to $2,150/month for a single channel; unused SMS credits do not roll over (per Reddit r/ecommerce + G2 reviews)
  • Steep learning curve for advanced flows, segmentation logic, and event triggers — non-technical users hit a wall (per G2 reviews)
  • Active-profile billing model penalizes infrequent senders — alternative pricing-by-sends would cut costs ~50% for stores that broadcast monthly or less (per Reddit r/ecommerce)

Native one-click Shopify integration is the cleanest path — orders, products, profiles, and event stream sync automatically with no engineering. Pre-built e-commerce flows (Welcome Series, Abandoned Cart, Browse Abandonment, Post-Purchase, Winback) ship value in days. Active-profile-based pricing model is the recurring practitioner gripe on Reddit — stores that broadcast infrequently see a 50% cost reduction switching to send-based competitors. WhatsApp, RCS, and mobile push covered under one identity layer through the Klaviyo Data Platform.

Powerful Shopify integration and precise segmentation for targeted campaigns. Pricing based on all profiles — active or dormant — forces expensive suppression strategies to control cost, and unused SMS credits do not roll over month to month even though storefront seasonality demands it.

Segmentation and automation enable relevant, lifecycle-based communication. Interface is mostly user-friendly with useful analytics. Building complex branching logic takes extra time, and pricing increases significantly with growing contact bases — predictable problem, no surprise mechanism.

Drag-and-drop editor and smooth Shopify integration cover most day-to-day work. Revenue attribution tracking is valuable for optimization, but active-profile-based pricing creates significant bill jumps as subscriber lists expand season-over-season.

Klaviyo simplifies welcome sequences and abandoned cart flows materially. Segmentation hits the right audience, and analytics provide clear insights. Pricing grows expensive as contact lists expand and the UI feels overwhelming at first — the learning investment is real.

Strong ROI from effective segmentation and automation. UI is easy to navigate, integrations are seamless, and AI features improve targeting accuracy. Learning curve for advanced flows is steep but results justify the investment for serious e-commerce operators.

Helpful for managing email flows with excellent support and regular training content. Pre-built flows simplify getting started, and responsiveness from support is impressive. Wish list: printable planning worksheets would enhance offline campaign preparation.

Klaviyo is the gold standard for e-commerce email and SMS. Segmentation is exceptionally powerful, flows drive revenue, and integrations keep data clean. Pricing scales quickly during growth phases though, without corresponding feature increases at each tier jump.

Customizable templates match brand identity well, and intuitive design enables quick campaign deployment. Segmentation for subscription services can be imprecise at edge cases, and real-time WooCommerce integration is harder than the equivalent Shopify path.

Efficient template-building tools with universal blocks for teams, plus AI-assisted segmentation. Outstanding customer service. Preview URLs require Klaviyo account login though, limiting team collaboration with external designers and freelancers.

User-friendly interface enables omnichannel email, SMS, and push strategies without coding. Revenue attribution appears inflated compared to GA4 and Shopify analytics though — creates tracking inconsistencies that require reconciliation each reporting cycle.

Currently using Klaviyo for email and SMS on Shopify. Email side is fine, but SMS pricing at $2,150 per month is brutal — 26K active profiles, 40K SMS sends per month burning through 200K credits. Looking for a standalone SMS solution that integrates well with Shopify.

Brick-and-mortar (now online only) store for 6 years, almost the whole time on Klaviyo. It is so expensive — wondering if there is something else just as good but less money. Did a little research and Omnisend came up as an option. Seems much more affordable.

No, Klaviyo is not worth it for a small store. Even most larger businesses do not need it. Shopify and Shopify Email have a lot of functionality. Rule of thumb: only install third-party apps when you 100 percent need them to run the business.

Shopify Email leaves a lot to be desired, but Klaviyo is the most expensive thing out there. If cost-conscious, check out Omnisend — until you are at $75M per year in revenue, it will be great and cost a lot less. Seguno is another option for Shopify-mail-plus crowd.

People who say Klaviyo is always best in any scenario have forgotten or never knew what it means to manage a small business. Maybe later you will need something more powerful than Shopify Email, but is it worth paying for Klaviyo from the beginning for months or years when the basics suffice?

Klaviyo hands down for Shopify stores if you want real results. Native Shopify Email is pretty basic and you hit limitations fast at scale. We run an agency and moved almost all e-commerce clients to Klaviyo — segmentation and automation flows pull in $40K+ monthly from abandoned cart sequences alone.

Shopify Email has maybe 30 percent of Klaviyo's functionality, not 90. If the store grows, email revenue will most likely be the biggest channel. Set up email marketing early — build foundations in one platform, then tweak and grow. Migrating later is painful.

Use Klaviyo across multiple B2C niches. Definitely not the cheapest option, but segmentation is amazing. Set up a Sunset Flow and you limit contact-list creep — surprising how many of 30K contacts do not actually spend regularly. Suppress those profiles and you slow how quickly you move up tiers.

Charging by active contacts can be expensive especially for stores that have many contacts but do not broadcast every X days. If email sends are infrequent, paying by send rather than contact count cuts costs in half without losing functionality. Switching pricing model alone saves real money.

Using Omnisend over Klaviyo — more affordable and does the job just as well. Solid automations, clean UI, great deliverability. For a small store, Omnisend gives advanced tools without the heavyweight Klaviyo price. Migrating later if needed is the typical pattern.
